Verification

A familiar caller name is not enough

The words on a call screen are not an authenticated introduction.

01

Consider the request

Pause before responding to demands for account access, transfers or immediate action. What the caller wants matters more than a reassuring name on the display.

02

Check independently

Use a previously established contact method. Do not let the caller control the entire verification process. The FTC explains that caller-ID information can be falsified, so the display alone should not settle the question.

03

Report factually

Use your carrier’s tools or the appropriate official service if you suspect fraud. Describe the call rather than making claims about an unverified person. Avoid repeatedly calling back or contacting people found in an unrelated number search.
